草木染めは、座繰り糸がもつ質感や表情を最大限に引き出すための、重要な工程のひとつです。
座繰り糸は、生糸のままでも、また精練を施した後でも、それぞれの状態を見極めながら染めることで、澄んだ発色と奥行きのある色合いを生み出すことができます。

精練には灰汁を用い、糸の状態に応じて加減を調整しながら、絹本来の光沢としなやかさを引き出していきます。
余分な成分を落としつつ、繊維を傷めることなく、やわらかさと透明感を整えることを心がけています。

染料は、アトリエ周辺で採集した植物をはじめ、座繰り糸の質感を引き立てる草木を使用しています。

色のみを求めるのではなく、光を含んだときの表情や、糸のゆらぎと重なり合う透明感を意識しながら、工程を重ねて丁寧に染め上げています。

Plant-based dyeing is one of the essential processes through which I bring out the full texture and character of zaguri silk thread.

Zaguri silk can be dyed either in its raw state or after scouring. By carefully observing the condition of the thread at each stage and responding accordingly, I am able to achieve clear, luminous colors with a sense of depth.

For scouring, I use natural wood ash lye, adjusting the strength with care to suit the condition of the silk. This process draws out the silk’s inherent luster and suppleness, removing excess elements while preserving the integrity of the fibers, and refining their softness and transparency.

The dyes I use are derived from plants gathered around my atelier, as well as other botanical materials chosen to enhance the texture and expression of zaguri silk.

Rather than pursuing color alone, I dye with attention to how the thread appears when it holds light, and to the transparency that emerges as the natural variations of the silk overlap and resonate. Through repeated, careful processes, each thread is slowly brought to its final hue.

I hope that, through the accumulation of handwork and the quiet presence of natural color, you will sense a gentle depth within the silk itself.
